Why This Is the Best Ninja Creami Protein Ice Cream Recipe
One of the biggest challenges with making homemade protein ice cream is texture. Sometimes protein powder recipes turn icy, chalky, or powdery.
This recipe solves that.
The combination of almond milk, chocolate protein powder, xanthan gum, and our skinny hot chocolate mix creates a smooth and creamy low calorie ice cream that tastes indulgent without all the extra sugar and calories.
Using the “Lite Ice Cream” setting on the Ninja Creami also gives this recipe that thick soft-serve texture that makes the Ninja Creami go viral in the first place.

High Protein Ninja Creami Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe
Ingredients
- 10–12 oz unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
(we use Optimum Nutrition Double Chocolate) — the same one from our Wendy’s Frosty copycat recipe.) - 1½ Tbsp skinny hot chocolate mix
- 3 Tbsp Splenda
- ½ tsp Xanthan gum

How to Make High Protein Ice Cream in the Ninja Creami
Step 1: Blend the Ice Cream Base
Whisk together all ingredients together until smooth and fully combined. Alternative method is using an emersion blender. We do not recommend a blender, as this adds too much air to the mix.
Step 2: Freeze
Pour the mixture into your Ninja Creami pint container and freeze for at least 16 hours.
Step 3: Prep the Pint
Run the outside of the frozen pint under hot water for at least 60 seconds before spinning.
Step 4: Spin on Lite Ice Cream
Place the pint into the Ninja Creami and run the “Lite Ice Cream” setting.
Step 5: Add Mix-Ins
If the ice cream looks powdery after the first spin, don’t panic — that’s actually perfect for this stage.
Use a butter knife to create a hole down the center of the ice cream and add your favorite mix-ins.
Step 6: Run the Mix-In Cycle
Run the “Mix-In” cycle and enjoy.
Optional: Re-Spin
If you want an even creamier texture, you can re-spin the ice cream. We personally prefer the consistency after the mix-in cycle because it keeps that thick Frosty-style texture.
