High Protein Quick Waffles (Because We Didn’t Survive Leg Day for Nothing)

Fluffy, Protein-Packed Waffles for Your Post-Workout Brunch

Some people finish a workout and immediately crave a green smoothie.

We… respectfully disagree.

If we just survived squats, burpees, or accidentally spent an hour convincing ourselves walking through Target counted as cardio, we’re rewarding ourselves with waffles. The only requirement? They need a little protein so we can pretend we’re making responsible life choices.

These High Protein Quick Waffles are fluffy, lightly sweet, ridiculously easy to make, and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or those “breakfast for dinner” nights when adulting feels optional.

They’re ready in minutes, freezer-friendly, and pair perfectly with fresh berries, maple syrup, peanut butter, Greek yogurt… or all of the above. We don’t judge.

Welcome to another episode where we’re just trying to balance fitness goals with our deep emotional attachment to carbs.

Why You’ll Love These Protein Waffles

✔ Ready in about 15 minutes

✔ Over 20g of protein in the batch (depending on your protein powder)

✔ Crispy outside, fluffy inside

✔ Great for meal prep

✔ Easy freezer breakfast

✔ Tastes like a real waffle—not cardboard pretending to be one

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1¼ cups milk of choice (we used almond milk)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together:

  • Flour
  • Vanilla protein powder
  • Baking powder
  • Salt

Create a well in the center and add:

  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Applesauce
  • Vanilla

Mix until everything is combined and no dry streaks remain. A few tiny lumps are perfectly fine—overmixing is how waffle dreams become hockey pucks.

Step 2: Cook the Waffles

Preheat your waffle maker.

If it isn’t nonstick, lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.

Pour in enough batter to almost fill the waffle maker.

  • Standard waffle maker: about ¾ cup batter
  • Mini waffle maker: about ¼ cup batter

Close the lid and cook until the waffle is golden brown and releases easily.

Repeat with the remaining batter.

This recipe makes approximately 4–5 waffles, depending on your waffle maker.

Step 3: Serve

Top with your favorites:

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Maple syrup
  • Greek yogurt
  • Peanut butter
  • Whipped cream (because balance)

Then immediately tell everyone these are “healthy.”

Our Tips

Protein powders are all a little dramatic.

Some absorb more liquid than others. If your batter seems too thick, splash in a little extra milk until it reaches a pourable consistency.

Want crispier waffles?

Let them sit in the waffle maker an extra minute after the timer goes off. Your patience will be rewarded.

Meal prepping?

Cool completely before freezing. Pop them in the toaster for an easy weekday breakfast that tastes freshly made.

Topping Ideas

  • Fresh berries + maple syrup
  • Peanut butter + banana
  • Greek yogurt + honey
  • Chocolate chips (we support happiness)
  • Cinnamon apples
  • Mixed berries with whipped cream

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I freeze these waffles?

Absolutely! Let them cool completely, freeze in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer bag. Reheat in the toaster or air fryer.

Can I use a different protein powder?

Yes! Vanilla whey gives the fluffiest texture, but other flavors work too. Just know every protein powder behaves a little differently.

Can I make these dairy-free?

Yes! Use almond, oat, soy, or your favorite dairy-free milk.

Can I make pancakes instead?

Definitely. Cook on a lightly greased skillet over medium heat until bubbles form, then flip.

More Breakfast Favorites

If you’re anything like us, one breakfast recipe is never enough. Pair these waffles with fresh fruit, a giant iced coffee, or a glass of orange juice for the ultimate post-workout brunch.

Because life is all about balance… one minute you’re counting reps, the next you’re counting how many waffles are left.

Spoiler alert: it’s never enough.
