Oh, the hustle and bustle of the holidays. We love it! To some people it is exhausting, but we don’t completely agree. Okay, okay. We agree it can be exhausting too, but it’s GOOD exhausting. The holiday party circuit is in full swing, and I am sure we are not the only ones that can’t keep them all straight in our calendar. We are guilty of having several parties pop up “out of the blue” that we need to bring a dish to. Well, don’t panic. We have the perfect recipe for all of those last minute gatherings that always pop up out of no where (or those you simply forgot about).
Who doesn’t love a spin on the classic rice crispy treat? Crispy, crunchy cereal, sweet melted marshmallow and mini M&M candies make this recipe the perfect addition to any holiday spread. These Marshmallow Christmas Wreath Treats are so cute, and if you can believe us, low calorie! That’s right. We omitted the butter in this recipe in a very clever way to make these treats even sweeter. 🙂 They take less than 10 minutes to make, and under 30 minutes to cool and set. All your friends or party guests will love them!
What You Need
4 cups cornflakes
3-4 cups mini marshmallows (or about 40 jumbo marshmallows)
3 Tbsp Granulated Butter Seasoning (Butter Buds or Molly McButter sprinkles)
2 Tbsp water
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
nonstick cooking spray
Step by Step
- Lay out two pieces of parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Set aside.
- Measure out your cornflakes in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Add the marshmallows, granulated butter flavoring, water, vanilla, and salt to a medium sized saucepan, and mix on medium heat until fully melted.
- Once fully melted, add in your green food coloring and stir until combined. (Note: we used the Wilton food coloring colors of blue and yellow to create green – 2 drops of each color)
- Remove the mixture from the stove, and pour over the cornflakes in your large mixing bowl. Stir continuously until evenly mixed in and coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- With a greased medium cookie scoop or spoon, scoop out balls of the mixture and place it onto your parchment paper.
- Using your hands, remove some of the mixture in the middle of each mound and use your fingers to press and form a ring (wreath). You might want to spray some nonstick cooking spray on your hands to keep the mixture from sticking to you. Don’t worry if they seem a bit loose or flimsy. They will harden once they cool.
- Before the treats cool completely, top each wreath with red mini M&M’s.
- Let the treats sit for at least 30 minutes in order to cool completely.
