Halloween is almost here, cookie lovers! It’s not only a great excuse to dress up in fun or scary costumes, but to make fun and delicious treats! 🙂 I wanted to make something Halloween-themed that checked all the necessary boxes…something “dark” and “spooky”. Therefore, dark chocolate cookies with Halloween colored add-ins did just the trick! They are fairly simple to make and filled with chocolatey, peanut buttery goodness that takes great care of anyone’s sweet tooth. These are perfect to bring to any Halloween party and event.
Things to Know Upfront/Quick Tips
- You’ll need the Special Dark Chocolate Cocoa (Hershey’s brand is what I used).
- If you can find the Nestle “Halloween” baking chips I would use those. If not, don’t worry — classic chocolate chips will do just fine.
What You Need
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup Hershey Special Dark cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1 cup chocolate chips (or Nestle Halloween baking chips)
- 1/2 cup peanut butter chips
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup Reese’s Pieces mini baking candies
Liquid/Other Ingredients:
- 1 cup softened butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Step By Step
In one smaller bowl combine your dry ingredients except your sugars: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In another bowl go ahead and mix together all of your chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, etc. Set aside.
In a larger (main) bowl cream your butter and sugars. Then add in your eggs and vanilla extract. Beat the ingredients together until fully combined. This will take about 5 minutes. Add in your flour, cocoa, salt, and baking soda. Mix until just combined. Then lastly, add in your chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, Reese’s mini chips, etc. and mix until just combined/folded in. I wouldn’t fold in all of the chips and leave about 1/3 cup to use for toppers after baking.
Set your oven to 350 degrees.
Spoon out dough to form 1-2 teaspoon balls and spread them about 2 inches from each other on parchment paper or slipmat.
Bake for 8-9 minutes until they are just set.
As soon as they come out of the oven add to the tops of the cookies your extra toppings to make the colors pop. 🙂
Enjoy!
